I’ve had the privilege of training in and practicing emergency medicine across two different continents, experiencing the field clinically, administratively, and academically. Through this journey, I have observed that despite geographical differences, variations in resources and healthcare systems, the challenges faced by patients, physicians, nurses, and staff, as well as challenges within emergency departments, are strikingly similar. One critical observation I made is the gap between the academic learning of emergency medicine and its practical application. I believe that emergency medicine, like any technical profession, is an art. Beyond academic learning, didactic sessions, and clinical training, mentorship that fosters true craftsmanship is essential yet often lacking. This realization led to the creation of EMAPS in 2021.

I firmly believe in the power of unity and view the withholding of knowledge and craftsmanship as a disservice to the profession. The impact of a single individual can be exponentially multiplied through knowledge sharing. EMAPS is an initiative to exchange knowledge and emergency medicine craftsmanship, striving for a better tomorrow for our patients in the Middle East, North Africa, and globally.
